Myanmar: Govt. to cooperate with ILO on work safety, health for young

"Government to cooperate with ILO on work safety, health for young," 30 April 2018

The government, along with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and other partner organisations, will focus on programmes that will ensure the safety and health of the country's young workers, who are considered more vulnerable than adult workers to occupational injuries.

...[Y]oung workers aged from 15 to 24 accounts for 4.66 million.

The ILO said 40 percent of these young workers are more likely to suffer occupational injuries.

...[H]alf of working children or about 500,000 young people, are engaged in hazardous forms of work.

...[Y]oung people enter the workforce with virtually no knowledge about occupational hazards and risks, nor any awareness about their occupational safety and health (OSH) rights.

...[A] new comprehensive OSH law...is expected to be...approved by the Parliament.

...The ILO has several OSH-related projects in Myanmar, including the SafeYouth@Work and the Youth4OSH....

Through its Vision Zero Fund project in the country, the ILO is also working to enhance prevention, protection, and compensation of work-related injuries, diseases, and deaths in the garment and agriculture supply chains.
