Nepal: Land rights campaign alleges Chhaya Center commercial complex violates rights of Newa indigenous community; companies respond

A land rights campaign group issued a statement alleging that Chhaya Center "violate[s] various rights of the indigenous Newa community in Thamel under the ILO Convention 169 and the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples that apply to Nepal”. The statement also mentioned that letters have been sent to ILO Country Office for Nepal and UN Country Team in Nepal requesting the intervention of the UN agencies to “come for a field visit to the affected community in Thanbahil and urged for timely actions before the community suffers further harms”.

Business and Human Rights Resource Centre invited Chhaya Devi Complex and Marriott International to respond to the allegations. The companies' responses are below.
