The world’s largest nickel ore producer is disrupting global metal markets after a government campaign to fight environmental degradation caused by the mining industry led to several mine shutdowns. An audit of mines launched by the Philippines Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Gina Lopez has led to the planned shutdown or closure of half the country’s mines, curtailing supplies from the country.
