Searching in vain for perspectives from Asian businesses? Principles on Business and Human Rights consultation comes to a close

On 31st January the consultation on the Guiding Principles for Business and Human Rights and the Implementation of the United Nations 'Protect, Respect and Remedy' Framework closed...The process is documented on the Business and Human Rights website...[M]ost of the submissions of commentary logged on the website appear to be from mostly western based corporations, industry and member associations and stakeholders...Many companies in Asia do not currently use the language of ‘human rights’ they will cover various human rights issues through their existing policies and procedures...While it is clear that a great deal of consultation has happened in relation to first the framework and then the draft principles it is a struggle to find voices and viewpoints from Asian businesses and Asian stakeholders.
