UAE: Migrant-Rights.org documents mis-use of tourist visas by Nepali recruiters; incl. responses from cos.

An investigation by Migrant-Rights.org has uncovered a pattern of Nepali recruiters sending workers to the UAE on visit visas, and not on worker visas. It is illegal to work on a tourist or visit visa in the UAE, with companies facing fines if tehy are found to have employed workers on incorrect paperwork. The report also found workers continue to pay high recruitment fees and often terms and conditions they agree to at home are not met once they arrive in their destination country.

In one case, Kalinchok Manpower Co. reportedly received government permission to place workers with EFS Facilities Services in the UAE, on conditions EFS would pay workers a minimum AED900 (USD245). MR found workers' offer letters showing AED600. The Resource Centre invited Kalinchok Manpower Co. and EFS to respond; Kalinchok reported that all workers were now being paid AED900. EFS's response can be read in full below.

In another case, workers recruited by Link Star Manpower were allegedly sent abroad and placed in a number of security firms. Having paid NPR250,000 (USD$2,150) to the agents, MR found they were forced to work illegally with fake documents and did not receive the wages they had worked for. Link Star Manpower and security company Hawk Security Services and did not respond to the allegations. A response from Group-2 Security can be read in full below.

The Resource Centre was unable to verify the identity or contact details for Bab Al Dahabi Co. mentioned in the article and so have not been able to contact them for a response.
