105 Indians in Kuwait write to embassy over salary dues

A group of 105 Indians, including 99 from of Tamil Nadu, who are currently working at Shuaiba port in Kuwait, has petitioned the Indian Embassy to intervene after their employer has allegedly stopped paying them salaries since June.

The workers have not been able to buy essentials or get food or pay rent. Their residency permit is also expiring... Social workers in Kuwait are providing them with food.

An embassy official in Kuwait confirmed receipt of the complaint. "We are discussing with the compay to sort out the issues," the official said, adding that this was undoubtedly an impact of the economic issues brought about by Covid-19...

Since salaries have not been paid, the group has been unable to buy even their breakfast, while the renter has disconnected elevator service, and water supply due to nonpayment of rent.
