A role for business in poverty alleviation

[Chinese leader] Xi [Jinping], and…many other politicians, are now recognizing…that the biggest alleviator of poverty in the last three decades has been the private sector…And just as the private sector has been an engine of economic growth in the past, there is much it can still contribute to tackling the region’s remaining poverty challenges…The private sector has a huge role in engaging in poverty alleviation strategies through its own activities and thus contributing to development opportunities. Helping to support local community development, engaging in poverty alleviation projects, creating innovative social enterprises and inclusive supply chains has a track record of success.
