Subsequent to the joint meeting between Guangdong and the HKSAR governments in early August on tighter measures towards enterprise polluters, more than 100,000 enterprises are under surveillance by the Guangdong Environmental Protection Bureau. In Dongguan, more than 100 companies will be closed down due to their non-compliance with environmental standards. Business operators in Guangdong have felt the government's determination in its effort in clamping down pollution by the sudden issue of a sewage charge bill of RMB 11.55 million to Dongguan Fu An Textile Company (a subsidiary of Hong Kong company, Fountain Set (Holdings) Ltd). In a surprise inspection of Fu An, it was found to emit a daily volume of 20,000 tonnes of waste water without reporting to the authorities, trying to evade the significant punitive water waste charge. 780 enterprises have been inspected in recent months, ten of which have been listed as "Enlisted Enterprises for Inspection and Improvement" including Dongguan Chaoyue Metal Products.
