Khon Rak Ban Kerd of Six Villages (KRBK) is a group of environmental human rights defenders from six villages in Wang Saphung District, Thailand, whose livelihoods have been affected by chemical contamination since a gold mine started operations in 2006. The Loei gold mine is operated by Tungkum Limited (TKL) and was initially accused of poisoning the villagers. On 12 January 2021, after repeated threats and assaults, villagers and activists protesting the impact of a gold mine have been shot at by a local government employee as they were trying to prevent ore from being dragged out of the mine. KRBK had submitted a petition on the previous day, demanding safety measures to protect human rights defenders from potential threats.
