Telecommunications company MTN this week had more to celebrate than the withdrawal of the multibillion-dollar US lawsuit by Turkish cellular group Turkcell. Turkcell decided to drop the case in the wake of a historic human rights ruling by the US Supreme Court. If Turkcell decides not to re-file its suit in another country, the merits of the claims that MTN embarked on a campaign of influence peddling and bribery to get a licence in Iran will never be tested in court...US-based NGO Unite Against a Nuclear Iran...claimed that MTN assisted the governments of Syria and Iran to track, intercept and harass citizens of those countries...MTN has consistently denied any acts of corruption and dismissed claims that it violated human rights.
