[PDF] Conceptualising and Implementing Social Responsibility: A Stakeholder Analysis of Responses to Labour Rights Abuses in Argentina’s Clothing Industry

This study aims to analyse the responsibility of companies in improving labour rights and standards in the Argentine clothing industry. It is widely acknowledged that many Argentine clothing companies are supplied by clandestine workshops using migrant workers in exploitative conditions. Despite various legal proceedings, few companies have made changes in their supply chain as a result. The study aims to shed light on this phenomenon from the perspective of relevant actors in the field. To this end, the study seeks to address: (1) How stakeholders conceptualise responsibility for labour rights and standards in the sector, and (2) How this responsibility is implemented by the main entities to whom it is assigned. The study uses the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights as a framework to evaluate the exent to which the Argentine Government and clothing companies are in line with this internationally recognised reference point for business-related human rights impacts.
