About 16 oil companies have been accused by OEFA, the Peruvian environmental authority of causing severe damage to the Amazon territories of indigenous peoples in several towns, contaminating their environment. Therefore, over 143 disciplinary procedures are ongoing, the majority of them against Pluspetrol Norte that has resulted in 72 fines, according to independent media and local communities. The other company responsible for these events is Perupetro.
