Roy Hill's statement
Protecting our people from sexual harassment and assault is an obligation that Roy Hill takes extremely seriously. We are committed to stamping out such abhorrent behaviour in our community and if or when it does occur in our workplaces, we have a zero tolerance approach. Our recent public submission to the inquiry outlines our vigilant and multifaceted approach to ensure our workplaces are as physically and psychological safe for our people as possible. Roy Hill has become aware of one complaint of this nature on site in the last 12 months, by Ms Emma Tweedie. Ms Tweedie was employed by one of Roy Hill's contractors and completed two swings at the mine site between . Her contract was not extended due to her not adequately performing her essential job tasks, including not draining the accumulators after parking her truck at the end of shift, which is a significant safety breach. Roy Hill first became aware of the complaint through the Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) in August 2021. Roy Hill swiftly commenced an investigation and a conciliation hearing date is set for Tuesday 28 September. Roy Hill also immediately reported the matter to the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety and has continued to keep them informed. Roy Hill has completed its investigation on all matters raised in the AHRC by Ms Tweedie. Her claims of sexual harassment weren't substantiated by the investigation and we remain committed to taking her though the investigation outcomes on Tuesday 28 September as part of the process that she has initiated with the AHRC. Some aspects of her allegations have changed since her original complaint to the AHRC. We became aware of these changes on Tuesday 21 September through the ABC who had already conducted an interview with Ms Tweedie before contacting us. We will investigate this and any further new information Ms Tweedie provides on Tuesday 28 September. Ms Tweedie has indicated to Roy Hill that her matter can be settled financially. Roy Hill's firm positions that we will not sweep sexual harassment under the carpet.”
