Uzbekistan: Environmentalists raise social & environmental concerns over mini-hydropower plant construction; incl. co. non-response

Pexels

Uzbek environmentalists have raised concerns about the construction of mini-hydropower plants in the country, warning that these projects can cause significant harm to the environment, especially to river ecosystems. They argue that the environmental impact of constructing mini-HPPs is not being adequately assessed.

The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Uzbekhydroenergo - the sole entity responsible for developing and implementing Uzbekistan’s hydroelectric system - to respond. The company did not reply.
