Australia: PwC suffers tax scandal over disclosure of confidential govt. information
Accountancy firm, PwC, faces scandal over alleged disclosures of confidential government tax plans. Media reports state that PwC's former adviser sent emailed government "secrets" to colleagues that were allegedly used to help clients in Australia & the US avoid tax.
As reported by The Guardian, PwC has apologised to parliament. New acting chief executive, Kristin Stubbins, said PwC was committed to learning from its mistakes and building “stronger trust and transparency”. “We have retained an independent law firm to evaluate prior reviews, conduct additional investigation where necessary and make recommendations for improvements,” a PwC spokesperson said. “We are continuing to look into this matter and we will not hesitate to take further actions.”
