India: Project Affected Families (PAF) and Siang Indigenous Farmer’s Forum (SIFF) issue press release detailing indefinite peaceful protest resisting armed forces deployment by NHPC for dam survey
"PRESS RELEASE", 22 May 2025
We inform to you in great distress and urgent notice that CAPF (Central Armed Police Force) have been deployed in Beging, Geku, Jengging and all three district headquarters Pasighat (East Siang), Boleng (Siang) and Yingkiong (Upper Siang), Arunachal Pradesh for assisting NHPC (National Hydro Electric Power Corporation) officials to conduct PFR (Pre-Feasibility Report) (attached) for the proposed 11,500 MW SUMP (Siang Upper Multipurpose Project) and allegedly the Drilling machine has been installed at Beging Survey point.
The PAF (Project Affected Families) under the banner of SIFF (Siang Indigenous Farmer’s Forum) have been opposing the proposed Dam since early 1980s and that we never consented for the Survey/PFR, this forceful survey is a blatant violation of our Fundamental rights under the Constitution of India. We highly condemn this arbitrary abuse of power which has profoundly hurt and violated our sentiments and rights for which we seek immediate intervention and remedy from concerned Govt. authorities and Civil society organizations.
Furthermore, it is to inform all Media Houses that in protest, the PAF are sitting INDEFINITE DHARNA and PEACEFUL PROTEST against the CAPF Deployment beginning from 23/05/2025 at Beging Dam Survey Site.
