Indonesia: CSO accuses Zhenshi Holding Group of threatening high conservation value areas with its industrial park expansion project.; incl. co non-response
A report titled “BTIIG Industry and the Threats to High Conservation Value Areas in Morowali: A Consistency Test of IBSAP, FOLU Net Sink 2030, and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework” released by Indonesia-based Action for Ecology and People's Emancipation (AEER) alleges that Zhenshi Holding Group, which owns 51% of PT Boashuo Taman Industry Investment Group (BTIIG), is linked to serious environmental and social risks in Morowali, Central Sulawesi. The report claims that BTIIG’s planned 7,376-hectare industrial park in West Bungku overlaps with 3,945 hectares of High Conservation Value (HCV) areas, threatening critical ecosystems and endangered species. Moreover, the industrial complex relies on coal-based energy from a 3x250 MW captive power plant, raising further sustainability concerns. The report warns that ongoing land clearing, tailings disposal, and limestone mining could destroy biodiversity, water sources, and cultural heritage sites, endangering both local ecosystems and indigenous community livelihoods.
The Business and Human Rights Resource Center reached out to Zhenshi Holding Group for comments. The company did not respond.
