NHK announced that there had been two cases in the past three years where the long working hours was certified as industrial accidents. The company received administrative guidance from the Tokyo Labor Bureau in April.

In 2019, a man in his 40s who was a reporter covering the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's political affairs at NHK died and was recognised as having suffered an industrial accident. Another employee was also recognised as having suffered an industrial accident in March of this year.

In 2013, a female journalist also died and her death was recognised as an industrial accident caused by long working hours. NHK stated, "we take the administrative guidance seriously. We will continue to work harder to improve working conditions, including creating an organisational culture that does not rely on long working hours and reforming operations."
