On 12 May 2024, journalist Juliet Kyarisiima and others were attacked and injured by a group of armed assailants in Uganda's western Buhweju District while she was covering a public meeting on a land dispute pitting the local Catholic church and its parishioners against a businessman. Politician Mwijukye, who was also injured, alleged the attackers were hired by those involved in the land dispute.
