Portugal: Seventy workers left unemployed & owed wages after factory announces insolvency; incl. co. response

In February 2025, it was reported that 70 workers were left unemployed after the Temasa - Têxtil do Marco, which supplied Sonae Group brands, announced to workers it had filed for insolvency. According to management, there were no orders to justify continuing business. The workers reported two years of poor working conditions prior to the news, including excessive workload, onfounded disciplinary proceedings, workers suffering from psychological pressure, and they are currently owed salaries and bonuses.
In April 2025, Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Sonae Group to respond. The response can be found below.
