We have been operating in Burkina Faso since 2004 and the Kalsaka/Sega gold mine has been in production since 2008. Since this time, we have paid US$55 million in tax to the Burkina Faso government, plus indirect taxation in the form of payroll and other taxation..95% of our employees are West African as we believe strongly in bringing skills and prosperity to the regions in which we operate...we undertook an extensive community consultation process and paid over US$1 million of compensation to local people in exchange for mining on farmland and a very limited relocation programme. The payments were made in a timely and professional manner and were agreed with the village chiefs and the government in advance of construction commencing...[We] support an extensive programme of community initiatives to benefit the people living close to Kalsaka/Sega, centred on our three key focuses of education, healthcare and sustainable livelihoods.
