Union of Concerned Scientists' rejoinder to bp

"It is notable that BP cited Lord Browne’s 1997 Stanford speech in its response to Decades of Deceit, given that the corporation’s subsequent actions bolster the report’s central findings. Under Browne’s leadership, BP rebranded itself as “Beyond Petroleum” and expanded its investments in renewable energy. But the effort was short-lived, and BP ultimately rejected Browne’s call for corporations to take responsibility to address climate change. In recent years, BP has walked back its emissions reduction target and reversed its commitment to cut back oil and gas production by 40% by 2030.

In this context, BP’s “net zero ambition” is far too little, too late—and reflects a continuation of the corporation’s long-term campaign of deliberate disinformation that is documented in Decades of Deceit."
