On May 31, as part of a protest that aimed to demand that Gran Tierra Energy fulfill its commitment to suspend its operations, there was a confrontation between the Public Force and some demonstrators in the municipality of Villagarzón (Putumayo). In the middle of this demonstration, Yorandy Rosero was killed.

The events took place in the Costayaco 10 well of the Canadian oil company Gran Tierra Energy. According to the Putumayo Indigenous Zone Organization (OZIP) and the Association of Inga Indigenous Councils of the Municipality of Villagarzón, Putumayo (Acimvip), throughout the day the protesters who had gathered in that area were victims of attacks by the Antinarcotics police who was in the place controlling the protest.

The murder of the young Yorandy Rosero, in events linked to the protest in the vicinity of the Canadian oil company GranTierra Energy added to the serious situations of violence during the National Strike.
