Angola - diamonds: Responses by diamond companies to report on abuses related to diamond mining in Cuango, Angola

Responses by diamond companies to report on abuses related to diamond mining in Cuango, Angola

In September 2006, independent journalist Rafael Marques published a report "Operation Kissonde: the diamonds of humiliation and misery", in English and in Portuguese.  The Financial Times and Reuters published articles about the report.  The report raises serious concerns about killings, torture, beatings & other abuses by security companies employed by diamond firms in Cuango, Angola, and includes responses by two of the security companies.  The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited five diamond companies to respond to the report.  The companies' responses & rejoinders to the responses by Rafael Marques are available below.  If Rafael Marques or the companies provide further comments, we will post them here.
