João Samuel Sipriqui, Tomo João Tomo, Maxwell Abreu and Lucídio Torres Cassicassica are human rights activists in Mozambique. They were arrested by police on November 20, 2021, reportedly with no legal basis, during a meeting to discuss advocacy strategies to pressure the company Vale Moçambique to implement procedures to reduce alleged environmental pollution and damage caused by their coal mining operations. The defenders were released on November 23, 2021.
