Kazakhstan: Two managers responsible for workplace safety detained after deadly accident at ArcelorMittal Temirtau

After the death of workers at the AMT, the police detained two "responsible for safe work" managers, 20 June 2022

The police department of Karaganda region...reported the arrest of two leaders "responsible for carrying out safe work" at the metallurgical plant of ArcelorMittal Temirtau, where on 10 June four workers died and another was injured.

“In the course of the investigation of the case, employees of the enterprise, including those responsible for safety at work, were interrogated. Taking into account the collected evidence, two managers responsible for carrying out safe work were detained on suspicion of committing a crime,” the press service of the police department said.

The police refused to give the names and positions of the detainees.

According to the police, the Temirtau Investigation Court sanctioned a measure of restraint in the form of detention in respect of the detainees. They are charged with “violation of safety rules during construction work, which negligently caused the death of four people”...
