Philippines: Hotel dismisses over 1000 employees due to renovation; security allegedly disrupts workers' peaceful protests

Workers of the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila, operated by Philippine Plaza Holdings, Inc., staged protests against the termination of over 1000 employees prompted by ongoing renovations. Workers, however, alleged that the hotel continued to operate belying the need for closure. On two occasions, the workers' concerted actions were allegedly violently disrupted by the hotel's security.

The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Philippine Plaza Holdings, Inc. to respond to the allegations. The company did not.
