The Haitian police repressed thousands of textile workers who took to the streets to demand wage increases to cope with the high cost of the basic food basket and other services. The forces of public order used tear gas and gunfire to disperse the long mobilisation on the Delmas viaduct, and several demonstrators denounced that the agents used live ammunition. The workers demand a wage of 1,500 gourdes a day (just under $15), which represents a three-fold increase in their current wages. The salary has not been increased since 2019.
