On 6 March 2023, police and other unknown armed individuals entered the community Triunfo de la Cruz and attempted to evict the community and take over the Wani Le territory.

Members of OFRANEH and the communities the organisation represents have denounced "the permanent harassment and threats from Playa Escondida", a tourist complex near Triunfo de la Cruz and property developments in Garifuna ancestral territory. These attacks include the killing of defender Ricardo Arnaúl Montero in January 2023, threats against Miriam Miranda in 2022 and the arbitrary detention of Jennifer Solórzano in 2021.
