Zambian NGOs and other stakeholders, from 23 to 26 June 2016, held the 5th Zambia Alternative Mining Indaba (ZAMI) under the theme, “Our natural resources our future: Extraction for sustainable development”. The three day meeting was attended by civil society organisations, faith based organisations, academics, development partners based in Zambia and other stakeholders from countries such as Kenya, Ghana, South Africa, Uganda, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Australia. Participants urged the Zambian government to implement strict legislation to curb illicit financial outflows, as well as ensure that the poor who are hosts to mining companies benefit from mining activities.
