Strategic litigation is an important tool used by rightsholders, civil society organisations, and human rights defenders around the world to hold corporations accountable for human rights and environmental abuses.

But how effective has this strategy been? What are the potential risks of human rights litigation and how can these risks be managed? Under what circumstances has litigation achieved positive changes in corporate practices and policies?

The Freedom Fund (FF) recently published a report ‘The Impact of Strategic Litigation on Corporate Behaviour’ in which leading business and human rights experts – Professor Surya Deva, Professor Justine Nolan , and Dr Ebony Birchall – assess the impacts of strategic litigation and explore how litigation can be used to advance human rights and environmental causes.

Join us for a webinar to learn more about the report’s key findings, including a presentation of the original Impact Framework aimed at assessing positive and negative impacts of litigation, as well as a discussion of lessons learned and recommendations for initiators of human rights litigation, corporations, governments, and donors. The presentation will be followed by an audience Q&A.

The webinar is open to all and there is no charge to attend, but registration is required. Simultaneous interpretation from English into select languages will be provided to encourage participation from civil society groups and human rights defenders based in the Global South.
