The CCC is looking for an experienced data coordinator to work on the inflow of wage data for the Fashion Checker database. The Fashion Checker is an online database developed by Clean Clothes Campaign in collaboration with a number of partners: Wikirate, Fashion Revolution and Wage Indicator.

Factual evidence on wages paid and hours worked is key in successful campaigns on living wages and a just transition towards sustainability in the future. Wages of workers in production countries are generally very low, and do not keep up with inflation and rising cost of living. This means their purchasing power often decreases in real terms, leading to poverty and excessive overtime. By showing that the wage gap is increasing, we can put more pressure on brands to improve their purchasing practices. To be more precise: to pay a fair price for the labour that goes into producing their garments. The aim of the Fashion Checker is to make it possible for anyone to find out if brands are living up to their living wage commitments by checking how much workers in the supply chain of those brands are actually earning. The database combines two strands of research: research on brands’ commitments, policies and practices towards paying workers in their supply chain a living wage, and research to find out what salary workers in garment-producing factories earn.

Tasks and responsibilities

• developing and executing strategies on how to scale up the inflow of wage data in the coming 4 years,
• identifying opportunities for collaboration with third parties on inflow of wage data,
• functioning as the liaison between the internal CCC Fashion Checker working group, Wikirate, Fashion Revolution and other groups,
• cleaning up and standardising incoming data,
• coordinating the CCC Fashion Checker working group.

We are looking for  

• has excellent knowledge about handling sensitive data related to workers’ identity and can ensure workers’ security is always safeguarded,
• has experience in working in a multicultural environment that is not data-centred,
• is able to translate technical data specifications into “normal language” that is understandable for worker rights advocates, trade unions and others,
• is able to ensure that research methodologies include a gender and migrant lens,
• is able to facilitate effective collaboration by coordinating, motivating, and engaging organisations and unions within the network to actively contribute to the Fashion Checker,
• Is fluent in English.

Desired experience:

• in researching global supply chains,
• in an international network that is bottom-up/flat structure,
• in reporting, both internally in an NGO environment and to funders.

We offer

• A freelance contract until the end of this year for up to 70 days (corresponds to 2 - 3 days a week), with a daily rate of 342 EUR, excluding VAT.
• The role is part of a 4-year EU funded project so a follow-up contract in 2025 is possible.
• The opportunity to work in a non-hierarchical, vibrant and diverse global network to structurally improve working conditions and support the empowerment of manufacturing workers in global garment and sportswear supply chains.

Applicants must have a residence and work permit for the European Union or for either North Macedonia, Serbia, or Turkey. We have offices in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and Brussels, Belgium, but the role can be performed remotely.
