7amleh reveals YouTube's policies restricted content on Palestinian life & permitted ads fueling incitement against Palestinians amid Israel's war on Gaza

In April 2024, the Arab Center for the Advancement of Social Media -7amleh, released the report "YouTube’s Impact on Palestinian Digital Rights during the War on Gaza”. According to the report YouTube’s policies and practices allowed for the dissemination of problematic content in the form of advertising material, which increased incitement to hatred and violence against Palestinians.

Additionally, the report mentioned that YouTube’s practices regarding demonetization and content restriction indicate that the platform's current community guidelines do not adequately protect freedom of expression and hinder the sharing of information about the lives of Palestinians.

Furthermore, the report outlines specific recommendations to improve YouTube's practices to better safeguard freedom of expression, non-discrimination, and user safety on its platform.

The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Google to respond to the allegations and to elaborate on whether and how the company will implement the recommendations outlined in the report. The company did not.
