Colombia remains one of the most dangerous countries in the world to be a human rights defender. A report released this week by Somos Defensores documents a worrying and significant increase in the number of attacks against Human Rights Defenders in 2015, which so far, the Colombian Government has done little to address. The report reveals that during the first half of this year a total of 399 attacks against Human Rights Defenders took place. This represents an increase of 105% on the same period in 2014...These attacks include...34 assassinations...The vast majority of attacks are thought to have been carried out by paramilitaries.
