AXIS responds to allegations of lacking sufficient measures to prevent abuse of its surveillance products

AXIS Communications response:

..."Regarding your request, Axis Communications products are intended to increase security and safety and be used in a responsible, legal and ethical way. Our network cameras protect people and property at universities, shopping malls, stadiums, healthcare facilities and many other venues around the world. We are acutely aware of the ethical challenges associated with video surveillance and the unfortunate reality that security cameras, if not used in a responsible way, can be used for purposes that have a negative effect on privacy.

We are vehemently opposed to any use of our products that violate privacy and human rights. Our commitment is reflected in the Axis Group Code of Conduct—which is guided by the UN Global Compact and applies to all employees, suppliers and business partners—and through initiatives such as regular supplier audits, employee and partner trainings, and systematic customer screenings. We recognize that we must continue to work hard to find balance between public safety and human rights. We’re committed to ongoing dialogue with all stakeholders to better understand, and act on, ethical challenges in our market"...
