Credit Suisse's response to Lower Sesan 2 Hydropower Project

Credit Suisse responded to the Resource Centre:

Response from Credit Suisse

8 February 2021

On 3 February 2021, Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Credit Suisse to respond to a letter dated 30 November 2020 from the project-affected Sesan Communities:

- Credit Suisse received the same letter by email directly from the Sesan Communities on 2 December 2020
- We were requested to reply by 31 December 2020, and our email response was sent on 23 December 2020 - Our response is as follows

  • We have carefully read the letter and note the concerns raised
  • As highlighted in the letter, Credit Suisse maintains strong positions on human rights, with particular emphasis
on our lending activities where we can have a certain level of influence over a project and/or client
  • Credit Suisse is neither a lender nor an investor in the Lower Sesan 2 Hydropower Project
  • We shared and discussed the concerns raised in the letter with the IFC CAO in December 2020
  • We understand that the CAO expects to complete their assessment of the case in early 2021
