Company Response

Danone's response to allegations associated with AAL

“We recognize the urgent need to continue and amplify our effort in protecting and restoring forests. We are committed to our principles of no deforestation, no conversion of natural ecosystems, no development on peat, and no exploitation of the rights of workers (NDPE), indigenous peoples and local communities in our supply chains.

To ensure we stand by these commitments and raise our ambition, we have issued our Renewed Forest Policy in 2022. We have also upgraded our Fundamental Principles in our Sustainable Sourcing Policy, which firmly includes the land rights of communities and indigenous peoples are in the standards all employees and suppliers must uphold.

...

As per the Accountability Framework Initiative (AfI) guidelines, Danone has had a grievance process running since 2019. This process is supported by the independent non-governmental organization Earthworm Foundation, who supports Danone teams to handle any allegations of misconduct or non-compliance with our Forest Policy. We can confirm that Danone is not sourcing from PT Astra Agro Lestari (AAL) – please find our current supply chain mill list here.

We know tackling such breaches in our supply chain that run counter to our commitments is a priority for our customers and consumers. And that’s why we remain ever vigilant and committed in our work to tackle deforestation and conversion.”
