Dibeth Quintana is a union leader of the Unión Sindical Obrera de la industria del petróleo, USO workers' organization. After attending a judicial proceeding in the Public Prosecutor's Office of the municipality of Aguachica (César) on February 13, she was approached by unknown persons, who abducted her, beat her up and tied her hands and feet. They abandoned her in the outskirts of the municipality. She has previously already suffered several acts of aggression and threats, such as the one reported on May 27, 2016, when she was about to enter the Barrancabermeja refinery, when she found that her card had been blocked and then she was prevented from entering to fulfill her trade union activity. When she tried to enter she was attacked by the guards and by members of the National Police in charge of security. Dibeth has been subject to constant monitoring, threatening phone calls and following of her and her family. Ecopetrol has not provided effective protection mechanisms for the union leader and didn't respond when contacted.
