Ecuador: Ecuacorriente initiates open pit large mining project to extract copper, silver, gold and molybdenum

...Last week the country took its first step towards mega-mining, with the beginning of the exploitation of an open-pit copper, silver, gold and molybdenum deposit, which will open other projects, as an alternative to the dependence that the economy has on oil...President Lenín Moreno inaugurated last Thursday the beginning of the mineral extraction of the Condor-Mirador deposit, in the area of Tundayme, in Zamora Chinchipe. With an investment of about 1.5 billion dollars, since the project began in 2014, the Ecuacorriente S.A. (ECSA) company put into operation a huge processing plant of mineralized material, in which it converts the rocks into a concentrated copper powder that will be exported to refineries in China...For 30 years, the project plans to process an entire mountain, which after the operation will be converted into a regenerated lake with natural species of the Amazon zone...
