On 15 November 2023, human rights defenders and members of the movement Just Stop Oil, Ella Ward and Ruby Hamill were arrested and imprisoned following a march. Just Stop Oil is a nonviolent civil resistance group demanding the UK Government stop licensing all new oil, gas and coal projects,

Since October 2023, 633 protesters belonging to the Just Stop Oil movement have been arrested, including Callum Goode, Luke Watson, Greg Sculthorpe . Nine of them including Sarti, are in prison, seven of whom have been imprisoned, without trial. They are Cressie Gethin, Noah Crane, Ruby Hamill, Phoebe Plummer, Chiara Sarti and Christopher Ford. Morgan Trowland and Marcus Decker have been sentenced to 3 years and 2 years 7 months respectively.
