In November 2023, Phoebe Plummer, an activist from the movement Just Stop Oil in the United Kingdom, was sentenced to six months in prison following a protest against new oil and gas projects. She was charged with interfering with the operation of key national infrastructure.

Just Stop Oil is a nonviolent civil resistance group demanding the UK Government stop licensing all new oil, gas and coal projects.

Since October 2023, 633 protesters belonging to the Just Stop Oil movement have been arrested, including Callum Goode, Luke Watson, Greg Sculthorpe . Nine of them including Sarti, are in prison, seven of whom have been imprisoned, without trial. They are Cressie Gethin, Noah Crane, Ella Ward, Ruby Hamill, Chiara Sarti and Christopher Ford. Morgan Trowland and Marcus Decker have been sentenced to 3 years and 2 years 7 months respectively.
