On March 6 2017, the trial re-opened against 16 community leaders opposed to the mining mega-project Conga, after the 2nd Provincial Criminal Prosecutor's Office of Celendín filed an indictment in which a sentence of up to 36 years in prison is sought, as well as the payment of a file of ten thousand soles by each accused. The trial is allegedly a result of the struggle of the local communities against the mining company Yanacocha, owned by Newmont Mining Corporation, Buenaventura and the International Finance Corporation. Among the 16 are: Milton Sánchez Cubas, Jeni Cojal, Ramón Abanto Bernal, César Tomás Bolaños Ayala, José Percy Zamora Díaz, Segundo Sare Ortiz, Jeremías Chávez Rodríguez, Maritza Emperatriz Bolaños Ayala, Fabio Rodríguez Rojas, María Bilda Silva Rodríguez, Alberto Izquierdo Vargas, Segundo Manuel Bolaños Ayala, Justiniano Montoya García, Arístides Arévalo Ortiz, Andrea Rodríguez Chávez and Elsa Elvira Bolaños Atalaya.
