G4S response re- "prison-like" conditions at refugee camp

...A long-standing member of the UN Global Compact, G4S is firmly committed to upholding human rights in all our operations.

Our security personnel, who work alongside the Greek Police at the Samos Closed Control Access Centre (CCAC), observe the security protocols defined and implemented by the Greek Ministry of Immigration and Asylum.

Their primary purpose is to ensure the safety and well-being of all CCAC residents and staff, and to help facilitate the smooth and quick processing of asylum applications.

G4S’s role includes managing entry and exit to the CCAC, conducting security checks, and monitoring activity within the centre to identify and report to the CCAC authorities any disturbance or potential security threats.

Additionally, G4S personnel escort visitors, guide residents between the different areas of the centre, and provide direct support to them during their application process.

Our personnel receive a comprehensive training programme. As well as modules on applicable safety and security procedures, the programme includes the importance of culture and diversity, interacting with and supporting people in distress, recognising and tackling racism, domestic abuse and sexual harassment.
