Gladson Dungdung is a human rights defender and writer based in Ranchi, India. In his latest book, Mission Saranda: A War for Natural Resources in India, published in 2015, Dungdung documents the struggles and the human rights violations in Saranda Forest, where mining companies are exploiting the ancestral home of 125,000 Adivasi people as part of the Indian Government’s development plans in the region. By 2016, close to 1,200 ha of land within the Saranda forests have been granted for iron ore mining to 85 companies. On May 9th 2016, Gladson was offloaded from a London-bound flight, allegedly because his passport was impounded in 2013 and required verification. Regional passport verification officer allegedly said that Dungdung's passport was impounded in 2013, but was released in 2014, which was communicated to all airports. Gladson alleged that the reason behind his offloading was his 2015 book.
