Harrods restaurant workers balloted to strike over pay & heavy workloads

In November 2021, United Voices of the World (UVW) announced it was balloting waiters and chefs at Harrods to strike during Christmas over pay, partly prompted by the heavy workload staff faced due to job cuts.

The workers demanded a pay rise from £9 an hour to a minimum of £12 an hour.

In December 2021, UVW announced workers had won a 25% increase in pay, with some chefs earning over £12.50 an hour. According to the UVW, the deal meant some workers would receive annual pay rises of 3% from 2023. Some workers were also set to earn an extra £5000 in annual pay.
