On 26 July 2025, Héctor Otoniel Hernández Castro, member of the Gregorio Chávez Campesino Cooperative was murdered while working on an African Palm oil plantation. This and the 4 other killings in 2025 of members of the Gregorio Chávez Campesino Cooperative in Honduras, are allegedly part of a broader pattern of targeted violence and intimidation by armed groups associated with Dinant, intended to repress campesino land defenders and dispossess them of their ancestral lands. The Agrarian Platform and other popular organizations have repeatedly called on the Honduran Attorney General’s Office and Secretariat of Security to take action amid widespread impunity.
