India: Industrial waste causing shortage & toxicity in water in Hyderabad
It's not just water shortage that will haunt the city's residents this year but also the fact that the water that is present in the ground is riddled with harmful chemicals...According to environmentalists, it is the indiscriminate dumping of garbage, especially industrial waste, into the ground that is to blame for the water pollution...Places such as Uppal, Nacharam, Jeedimetla, IS Katedan or Saroornagar are the first to fall prey to such contamination owing to the fact that they host industries. The city is surrounded by pharmaceutical and chemical industries, which do not hesitate from dumping hazardous and chemical wastes that eventually find its way into the dwindling aquifers," rued K Purushottam Reddy, a city-based environmentalist. "It is this water that ultimately find its way to people's homes," he added.
