In April 2022, two indigenous Yanomami were executed and five were injured during a conflict with miners and the Tirei Community. Illegal miners, the "garimpeiros", are reportedly arming the Tirei Community and inciting conflict with the Yanomami community over access to a river affected by illegal exploitation.
