International Seminar on Human Rights and Business at Crossroads: Challenges and Perspectives

See all tags
In June 2008, the United Nations Human Rights Council adopted the “Protect, Respect and Remedy” Framework on Business and Human Rights, followed by the adoption, in June 2011, of accompanying Guiding Principles for its implementation. In parallel, the OECD finalized in 2011 the revision of its Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises. Taking place just after the Rio+20 Conference and in a particularly tense national context characterized by escalating violence around mining conflicts, this international conference aims at discussing and stimulating debate on the current state of play in the field of business and human rights. Experts and participants will look at emerging trends of economic globalization and their human rights implications, in light of the quest for natural resources, current investment projects, and the growing influence of BRICS countries.
