Janildo Oliveira Guajajara was a member of the Guardiões da Floresta (Forest Guardians) collective. He was killed when was returning from an Indigenous celebration. His nephew was also shot, but survived. Weeks earlier, Guajajara had participated in a Forest Guardians Amazon summit, which, among other topics, discussed measures to prevent illegal loggers invasions. The event was being organised by Bruno Pereira until June when he was murdered in the Javari Valley with The Guardian's journalist Dom Phillips.
